Did you know that in the 1950s and 60s, women couldn’t buy property, get a credit card or passport in their names or open a bank savings or checking account without a male co-signer? Or that there was no “Women’s Movement” at the time to help them?

Meet Elaine Rock, the author of the biography Dusty Roads: Meet the Hidden Figure Who Really Ignited the Woman’s Movement. When Elaine, a former history teacher, technology executive and women’s rights advocate, met Dusty Roads, she knew that Dusty’s story was a book. Dusty’s life set the stage for the women’s movement to come. Elaine committed to write it when she heard Gloria Steinem say to Dusty, “You were the  one who started it all.”

If your audience has an interest in women’s history, the aviation industry and attendants, the ongoing fight for fairness and equal rights for all, and the shaping of a better future, Elaine is eager to speak with them. She will highlight Dusty’s pioneering efforts to inspire to the women’s movement; explain how she helped advances in aviation policies; how she became an unintended lobbyist;  and discuss why the struggle for equality and justice for both men and women is far from over.

Elaine Rock is the author of Dusty Roads: Meet the Hidden Figure Who Really Ignited the Women’s Movement. She was featured in the PBS American Experience documentary Fly with Me. Elaine speaks nationally and is featured all formats of media. Contact her for both in-person interviews and online availability.
